Dr. Marlon Burton is a distinguished educator and leader whose extensive career in the education field spans over 18 years and has involved various roles within the educational landscape. His journey began in New York, where he served as a public school math teacher for eight years, imparting mathematical knowledge and inspiring students to achieve their potential. Following his tenure in the classroom, Dr. Burton advanced to the role of Assistant Principal for Mathematics and Public Relations at the same high school, where he further influenced the academic environment and community engagement.

Before his impactful work in high school education, Dr. Burton honed his leadership skills as a middle school principal at a large inner-city school in New York. During his time in this role, he successfully closed the achievement gap, enabling students to graduate from eighth grade with over nine New York State Regents Examinations completed. This remarkable accomplishment reflects his commitment to academic excellence and equity in education.

Dr. Marlon Burton’s leadership extended beyond individual schools when he became the Director of Secondary Education for a network of schools in New Jersey. Here, he played a pivotal role in opening a new middle school, which is currently under candidacy for the prestigious International Baccalaureate Program. Dr. Marlon Burton holds multiple degrees, beginning with two Associate degrees and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Hotel and Restaurant Management from Berkeley College. He furthered his education by earning a Master’s Degree in Science and Education from Lehman College, specializing in Business Education, and subsequently completed additional Master’s Degrees in Information Technology and Mathematics Education from Drury University. In his pursuit of knowledge he went ahead to acquire a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Capella University, where his research focused on understanding and mitigating secondary school dropout rates—a pressing issue in education today.

Moreover, Dr. Burton holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Columbia University, majoring in Health Care Management, and is currently working towards a Master’s in Organizational Leadership. His diverse educational background is complemented by a graduate certification in School and Business Administration from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, as well as certifications as a New York State school business administrator and mathematics educator.
